The primary qualifying tournament MSO teams practice for is the Regionals in mid-March. Qualifying regional teams would compete at the MSO States in early May. If selected, the top two Michigan teams will compete at the SO Nationals in late May.
Each school has one “primary” team and one or more additional “alternate” teams. Each team consists of a maximum of 15 students, who together compete in 23 events, with each student competing in an average of 3 events. The list of MSO 2025 events and brief descriptions are below:
Expected commitment: 1 hr/week per event for meet-together, 1-2 hrs/week per event of independent study (especially as we get closer to the Regionals)
Students study together for multiple events, and all interested students train together. The head coach decides final team selections and event assignments based on test performances and level of commitment throughout the year. Teams will also travel to Invitational tournaments, typically scheduled once a month on a Saturday. Students are expected to be available to participate in ALL invitationals, regionals, and state tournaments if selected.
The registration fee for 2024-25 is $60, which covers team registration fees for invitationals and regionals, study guides, build material, and medals. Students also need to wear the South Arbor MSO T-shirt at tournaments. New youth and adult T-shirts can be purchased at $15 each.
